Water-resistant Bookmarks

If you are someone like me who loves to read chances are you have probably put your bookmark down on a wet spot. These are kitchen, bathroom, and rainy day friendly bookmarks that not only look good, but can easily be dried off if you lay your bookmark in the place where someone had just put their soaking wet umbrella.

Materials Needed:

Thick paper that is the same width or slightly thinner than the width of the duct or shipping tape.

Interesting Shipping Tape or Duct Tape (I used 3M Scotch Shipping Packaging Tape with a red Cheveron pattern and Duck brand Duct Tape)

Scissors

(Optional) buttons, etc if you want to add additional decorating

Directions

Cut your paper to be the height you want your bookmark. Make the width the same or slightly less than the width of your tape. Since the paper will be completely covered by duct or shipping tape this is a good time to use up scraps of paper you do not like as much.

Lay tape down along the edge of your paper. Go slowly to try to avoid wrinkles and make sure that it stays straight. Cut the tape at the bottom of the paper.

Turn it over and apply tape to the other side. Lay down another layer of tape slowly. Then cut the tape.

If your paper is extending beyond the tape trim it.

Use punches, fancy scissors, etc to continue decorating your bookmark.

Customizing the CSS3

I was playing around with navigation options and figured out a good method for creating a glass looking hover effect. I decided to leave the hover rectangular, but you can also adjust the border radius to make it rounder.

I am only including the css for the hover. These values assume that you are using the background color #d9d9d9 for your navigation bar. If you are using a different navigation background color replace “#d9d9d9″ with the color you are using.

Making the Scrub Gentle

I have seen sugar and salt scrubs recommended since I was a kid. The standard sugar scrub combination of sugar, brown sugar, and oil is great, but for those with more sensitive skin sometimes it can feel a little rough. Adding the baking soda decreases the grittiness which is helpful for whose who find the regular scrub a bit harsh on sensitive skin.

As an added advantage it uses exclusively common kitchen ingredients so for many people the cost will only be pennies worth- much cheaper than the commercial alternatives.

Gentle Sugar Scrub- Basic Recipe

1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar

1 Tablespoon Sugar

1/2- 1 Tablespoon Baking Soda

2 1/4 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil of your choice

Directions:

1. Combine brown sugar, sugar, and baking soda and mix.

2. Add in oil(s) and mix until even thickness.

Notes

I know people who swear by Olive Oil, but I prefer an oil that doesn’t smell.

To make it more gentle use more baking soda. To make it more gritty decrease the baking soda.

This recipe is scaleable. It can also be made with 1 Cup Brown Sugar, 1 Cup Sugar, 1/2 Cup to 1 Cup Baking Soda, etc.

I used a container I had in my “container cabinet”, but if you making some for a gift you can “pretty it up” by decorating the top, adding a bow to it, etc.

Warnings

This is not intended for internal use. All recipes are provided for your information and you take responsibility for using them. While this is gentler than most other recipes I have seen, it may still not be appropriate for those with specific skin or other health issues.

About the paid version

The paid version of MLB At the Bat 12 includes news, schedules, scores, Gameday, live radio, stats, live Game of the Day (blackout restrictions apply), Lookins, and in-game highlights. From a iPhone you can access a video archive that is searchable by player, team, or keyword. (For keyword I’d suggest “oddities” which brings up some plays that are, well, odd).

Additional functionality will be added before opening day.

Cost information

The lite version is free and includes scores. If you want more functionality there are in-app purchase options for a $14.99 fee for 12 months or you can pay by month at $2.99 per month. If you have MLB.TV Premium the app is free.

Unlike last year the app is universal and can be used on both an iPhone and iPad.
