Upcycle Catalog and Calendar Decor
It is that time of year when it is easy to drown in catalogs and the free calendars that some organizations send out. Catalogs often feature bright and seasonal pictures or interesting patterns and backgrounds. Instead of immediately recycling the catalog or calendar consider making a seasonal themed poster. Alternately make the poster a nature theme, a pattern theme, sports theme, or any other theme that appeals to you. .
Finding Good Circles
The directions are simple. For the back of the poster I used thick white cardstock. In order to find good circles I flipped through some catalogs to find fall/winter/Thanksgiving/Christmas related objects and patterns. Often you will only get two or three circles from a page so you can easily use up a catalog or calendar. Luckily, I have a ton of catalog pages.
Take a craft punch and start punching. I chose to use a 1 3/4 inch circle punch. Alternately you could use a fall or holiday themed punch if want to get even more into the spirit of the season. It would be a good use for a pumpkin punch if you have one. Keep punching until you have enough circles to fill your poster.
Next figure out your exact layout. I gently placed the punched circles and moved them around to see what order worked best. When you have your final layout stick the circles to your backing. I used a glue stick. There are other adhesive options you can use, but you want to make sure that the whole circle sticks to the poster and lies flat.
